“This work brings to mind In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, the predecessor of New Journalism. But most of all Tamas’ excellent book reminds me of another masterpiece of this kind, The Executioner’s Song by Norman Mailer.”

Antonio D’Orrico, Corriere della sera

The Laserman, with more than 200 000 copies sold, is not only one of the most bought documentary novels in Sweden ever, it has also been translated into over a dozen languages. The reviews have generally been very positive. Despite the fact that the story is in many ways tied to Sweden, many reviewers have pointed out its universality. The anatomy of racism and xenophobia is similar from country to country. This, for example, is what the Italian newspapers wrote:

”Few Italian works are comparable… a great investigative novel that many should read: a book that is beautiful, necessary, cautionary.”

Goffredo Fofi, Messagero

”The book was first published ten years ago, but it has still not lost its actuality, not only in a Swedish context, but in an all European setting where humanism has demonstrated its deep failure.”

Fulvio Panzeri , Avenire

“All of this sounds tragically familiar thinking about what recently happened in Norway, where Anders Breivik massacred 77 people…The book, although set in Sweden, is like a prophecy. A prophecy about the horrors born out of social isolation and turning into the drama of frustrated revenge. The term “monster” is not enough to understand what happened and to explain the fanatic far right extremism, however, this book guides us into the abyss.”

Giancarlo de Cataldo La Republica

”An extraordinary journalistic book.”

Luca Crovi, Il Giornale
